I just got a new wireless intellimouse explorer for Christmas to replace my
malfunctioning original intellimouse explorer. I installed the Intellipoint
5.0 software that came with it and now the center button has lost its
functionality in my applications. Whenever I click the centre button all
that happens is the application minimizes. It used to do different actions
depending on the program. I checked the mouse settings and the centre button
click is set for default.

I would have thought this was a bug in the software, but I searched the
newsgroups and the web and didn't find anything specific about this problem.
So I thought I would try asking here.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Brian

You will need ti install the latest Intellipoint mouse drivers in ordeer to be
able to "reprogram" the center mouse button. The center mouse button
"default" is usually auto-scroll (???).

common complaint;

1) go into mouse control panel and check that the center button is
programmed to be "middle-click"; it defaults to "next window" in the newer
mouse drivers ("auto scroll" is an equivilant alternate setting). you can
also leave it set to "next window" and only change it for the specific
application that you want - check the "enable program-specific settings"
box and then click "settings" and go in there to change it on a
per-application basis.

2) don't see "enable program specific settings"? version 5.0 removed that
feature, it was restored in later versions. Latest version is 5.4 (as of
jan 05), try getting it:

it seems more stabile, and does a good job installing itself, ensuring
that other left-over tidbits from previous mouse drivers are cleaned up.
