Mouse Button Option - change to one click

I can't get the click option to work. Rather the double click the left mouse
button to activate an icon I want to single click.

I think I am doing it right...but it still requires a double click

Since you didn't tell us how you are doing it... The usual way is from
Folder Options. Here's an MS Knowledge Base article that describes the
process:

I have the problem in the opposite direction-my mouse now opens programmes
with a single click when I want it to do it with a double click? Has only
just started doing this-any ideas-thanks

Folder Options> General: Change single click option to double click.
 
Thanks for your help Sharon-but in the end it has turned out to be a "dody"
mouse-now replaced by PC World for £10 !!!!

You're welcome and no problem! I've worn out a few keyboards and even a
mouse or two in my time. It's not fun until you finally figure out it's
time to replace these things.
