mouse autoselect

How do I stop a stray mouse from autoselect new windows
or advertisements? If my mouse curser is hovering over
the edge of a window or an imbedded ad, it will auto
select and make that window active. How do I ensure the
active page is not changed with out my selection?
 
Does it select an object whenever your mouse hovers over something, or just
once in a blue moon? If its everytime, check the single mouse click setting
in Mice in the Control Panel.

Thanks I think I cured it. I have a touch pad and it was

set so that tapping the pad was the same as a left button
click.
