Mouse and window positions

Here is a strange one. If I have a window open and move my mouse over to the
left or top edge to resize the window, the cursor changes to the double arrow
not on the border but inside the window a bit. On the other two sides the
cursor changes outside the window a bit. If I click on the mouse, the cursor
edges over to the correct position on the appropriate border.

I'm new to Vista Home Premier.
I have a new Dell XPS 420, using a Logitech Laser.
The movement is fine and smooth.
The cursor alignment is confusing and sometimes difficult to place
(literally).
Same indications as Sam has; especially the left side of the current window.
Attempting a "hit" on a radio button can almost make me miss command line
editing.
I'm a former (at home) Windows XP SP2 user; still am at work.
I don't believe that it's an association with hardware or driver for a
specific mouse.
I don't work "inside" Windows; therefore, I'm at a loss.

A second mouse was hooked up to a different port with the same strange mouse
movements. It is like the mouse thinks the window is in a different place
than it actually shows on the monitor.

I just got a new computer and this is happening to me too - I thought
I might be the only one! It is a very annoying problem. I find that
sometimes I can't close a program or something because when I mouse
over the 'x' on the top right, it shows the resize arrows. Is there
any fix for this?

Dell XPS 420 here, too. Maybe a Dell problem?

I am having the same problem as well on my newDellPC, tried out using
paint the cursor was miles off. Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

I found another post about this. It may have something to do with the
video card - do you guys have the Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT? Apparently
you can download updates for that on Dell's website.

Also, as a quick fix, go into Control Panel -> Hardware Devices ->
Mouse -> Pointers tab, and change the scheme from Windows Aero to
(none). Hopefully this helps!

I updated the driver for the ATi HD 2400.
WONDERFUL !!!
It now performs as expected.
Thanks for the pointer
VERY Happy with the results :-))

Hey Ray, I also wanted to add my thanks for the driver update from Dell idea.
Worked well (so far anyway), even though I've got a 2400, not a 2600. Ill be
waiting to see if there are any other issues that come up. The only reason I
say that is that when I used ATI's installation software my screen went blank
(though I know the computer was still running because it still made sounds).
I restarted my computer (once in safe mode, then again in normal mode) and
now it's working fine, so I hope nothing went wrong. Anyway, thanks again.
I've been toiling over this for quite some time.

I have the same issue. I have tried all the updates for my ATI card, and
yet, I still have the same issue. From day one. I also have a dell computer
and when trying to have them work on this issue, they have absolutly no idea
what i am talking about. I will continue to try and find some answers
myself. But I have been trying to find a fix for the mouse thing since
November. This is the first info I have found referring to this mouse thing.

I had a mouse alignment problem with my Dell XPS420 and ATI HD 2400 video
card. I downloaded new video driver and I think problem is fixed. ( Just did
this so I have not used computer enough to be certain.) Go to START,
WINDOWS UPDATE to find ATI driver.
