mouse and keyboard freeze up

9/03 . WIN XP Home . NAV 04 . DSL Broadband

The problem: mouse and keyboard (Logitech Deluxe
cordless) freeze-up, preventing me from Ctrl-Alt-Del to
see where the problem lies. All I can do is shut off and
restart. Occasionally, out of the blue, there's an
unwanted shutdown and restart. The mouse-keyboard freeze
can happen 6 times in 3-4 hours: some days, no freeze at
all. Offline or online makes no difference. Device
batteries fresh.

System: No conflicts; all drivers up to date, XP-conform;
all Microsoft stuff updated at least weekly. My PC is
not on a network; it's just little ol' me at home working
on photos, texts, going online now and again; I'm looking
at a photo newsgroup almost daily; if I recall correctly,
I've never had a freeze at that time.

First attempt: Logitech drivers un-installed, WIN XP
drivers for these devices installed instead. Didn't help.

Second attempt: Event Viewer showed "True Vector Engine -
Event 5007" errors; so I un-installed Zone Alarm and
activated Win firewall. Freeze-ups nevertheless. Other
errors reported are "PerfNet - Event 2004" and "parvdm -
Event 2". It's possible, of course, that these errors
have nothing to do with the freeze-ups.

I'd be most grateful for constructive help.

I think it's a XP problem rather than a logitech...I had similar problem for Tablet PC and found no solution. See my post, search "Cordless Mouse

In: microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc

and sometimes just clicking on other applications like surfing with IE. But for sure, the mouse will freeze if File Explorer is opened. I bought a $29 white Logitech® Cordless Access Duo™ but I don't think it is because of the ball mouse. Keyboard also freezes up at this point. Then I have to use the pen to move the cursor...everything cordless is frozen. Has anyone had this proble

Sorry, I don't have a solution. My computer (AMD2000+windows xp) constantly "locks up", especially when scrolling through text (ie. long e-mails), or at any time, actually. It also shuts down and restarts for no apparent reason. Microsoft troubleshooting says there is probably a problem with display drivers SIS 600, 650, etc. However, I have downloaded all the latest upgrades and drivers. Did you get a reply that has a solution? If so, could you pass it on. This is driving me nuts at times. Am using firewall, spyware, nortons, etc., to no avail.....
