The problem: mouse and keyboard (Logitech Deluxe
cordless) freeze-up, preventing me from Ctrl-Alt-Del to
see where the problem lies. All I can do is shut off and
restart. Occasionally, out of the blue, there's an
unwanted shutdown and restart. The mouse-keyboard freeze
can happen 6 times in 3-4 hours: some days, no freeze at
all. Offline or online makes no difference. Device
batteries fresh.
System: No conflicts; all drivers up to date, XP-conform;
all Microsoft stuff updated at least weekly. My PC is
not on a network; it's just little ol' me at home working
on photos, texts, going online now and again; I'm looking
at a photo newsgroup almost daily; if I recall correctly,
I've never had a freeze at that time.
First attempt: Logitech drivers un-installed, WIN XP
drivers for these devices installed instead. Didn't help.
Second attempt: Event Viewer showed "True Vector Engine -
Event 5007" errors; so I un-installed Zone Alarm and
activated Win firewall. Freeze-ups nevertheless. Other
errors reported are "PerfNet - Event 2004" and "parvdm -
Event 2". It's possible, of course, that these errors
have nothing to do with the freeze-ups.
I'd be most grateful for constructive help.
