I have 3 drive for CD's and DVD's.
1 is a DVD Rom. 1 is a CD R/W. The third is a DVD R/W.
each has an assigned drive letter that appears in My Computer.
When I place a dick in any of them the drive lights come on and the cursor
usually shows a disk icon. When I go to open the disk I receive a message
that the drve does not have a disk in it. However when I place a DVDVideo in
drive I and start PowerDVD I can view the movie. If I open drive I it will
display an emplt window. No files on any type of disk will appear.
These problems started about a week ago. I thought that it may have been
sofware related so I used Norton GoBack and restored my hard drives but the
problem remains.
Can someone please help me. Thank you.

What software do you use for burning DVD/CD's..? Have you updated it..?
What type of CD/DVD media are you using ie..CD-/+R/RW, DVD-/+R/RW..?
Do you have the XP inbuilt CD Wiz disabled..?
A great read on burning CD/DVD's in XP..See link..

What is the CD Wiz? I use CD-R and DVD-R media. The problem I have is that
up to about a week ago I could read from and write to these disks but now
when I try to open drives f or g I am asked to place a disk in the drive even
though a disk has already been inserted and the drive door closed. I cant
open the disks and can"t see what files they contain. Drive I the Lite-On DVD
R/W does not display it contents but does not give a message that the drive
does not contain a disk. I have checked each of the drives in Device Manager
and see that they are described as "This device is working properly".
Thanks for your suggestions Jaymon.

Mike, disconnect two of them by just pulling the white power connector.
See if one works Ok. Try the other two in the
same way. Go here and download and install Motherboard Monitor. Check
the voltages 3.3, 5 and 12v rails. They should
not dip below 5%. Did you try different CD's. Commercial, ones you
burned etc.

Mike .
Open "my computer" and right click on the RW drives, properties, recording
tab, and make sure the check box is unchecked for "enable CD recording on
this drive" for the inbuilt XP CD recording capability (cd wizard) and do a
cold boot and reboot the computer after a minute.. Again, what software are
you using to burn your DVD-R media..? Has it been updated lately..?

I tried your suggestions Jaymon but nothing has changed. Thank you. The
software I use is varied. Sometime I use Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. Other
times I use Nero Express or Nerovision Express 2. I have not updated any of
this software lately.
However I recently downloaded DVD Shrink 3.2 which I have used to copy some
of my DVD's. This worked fine last week. I was very impressed with it. I also
downloaded DVDFab Decrypter which is actually called DVDFab Expess when
opened. I have opened this software but have not actually burnt any disks
with it yet. The same applies to Video-DVD Duplicator.

hahahahahaah DICK? maybe you should break up with your computer man... haha,
just kidding with you :P

Hey Mike,
If you are trying to use more than one Burning app that is most likely the
problem.. For me Nero works well with DVD shrink 3.2 and DVD decrypter 3.5
that is all I use and really need.. Having two burning apps installed or
switching back and forth from Nero and Roxio and other programs on a regular
basis, is not a good idea, it can cause XP to get confused, ie...In the
Windows registry..
You need to merge cdgone.reg and uninstall the extra burning apps and only
use what works for you and only what you really need..

Hope this helps..
