Is it possible to have an AVI file for a background. Other church presentation software allows this and I am trying to keep powerpoint, but have not been able at this point to discover how to use an avi file in powerpoint as a background. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated. BTW making a move is not acceptable as the amount of time the words are used over the background varies from service to service.

In PowerPoint video files *always* play on top and you can't overlay text
and other objects and see them when the video is playing.

Hi,

There are at least two options for backgrounds with motion
in PowerPoint.

You can add an AVI file to the slide master to an area
that will have no text on it. As Sonia said, AVI files
will always play in the foreground and therefore no text
will show over top of them while playing. You'll also
need to set custom animation for it to play automatically
and loop.

The second method (and best choice)is to use an animated
gif as the background of your slide master.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the capability to display anything in front of a
playing movie (movies will always plays in front regardless of their
z-order position in the slide when edited).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that some kind
feature for allowing other slide contents to be displayed in front of
playing movies, don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS,
please) to Microsoft at:

your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion

suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product

that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

I have never understood this claim. The cursor can always appear in front of
any form of movie, so to my non-technical mind there must be an available
layer in front of the movie. What prevents it being used for other things?

At a guess ...

The system cursor might (and would probably HAVE to be) owned by Windows
itself. You can control what it looks like while your app has focus (ie,
change it to an hourglass/wait cursor) but it changes back to something else
as soon as it leaves the application's window.

If Windows didn't own it, you wouldn't be able to click on various windows to
activate them. (well, ok, you could alt-tab, but that's not The Windows Way,
just a concession to us keyboardgeeks).

I guess that means there is no way to hijack it without totally losing
control of the computer. Sounds like half the presentations I do...
