My Shuttle AK31 version 3 motherboard needs replacement.
I will upgrade to a Biostar which uses the Nvidea chipset
instead of the Via chipset.

I have attempted to do a Setup Repair by connecting the
Hard Drives and Booting from the Setup W2k CD.

All goes well until the the system goes to check the
keyboard, and harware. At that point the system asks for
the 2000 license. The problem is that the mouse and
keyboard stop functioning and I cannot enter the license.

Any help in solving this would be appreciated.

Could this be a Video issue as the new board has an
Nvidea AGP card while the old is using an ATI?

Thanks

How to Move a Windows Installation to Different Hardware

Dave definitly a better way to go.
Still not perfect, as you must install service pack 4 on the new system
in order to do a proper backup restore.

Also, for some reason the new install on the C drive ended up being the
D drive (actually went to the proper drive but setup named the drive to
d). Had to reinstall and take out the other drive. Don't understand why
2000 install renamed the drives. Some day I will get this in under 4
hours!!

Thanks

Gerald - haven't seen the earlier posts, but...

It's my understanding that this problem of the new OS installing to a
"D:" or other "non-C:" partition occurs when the OS installer, running
early as a DOS-like process, continues UNINTERRUPTED after formatting
the old "C:". It remembers that C: exists, and shifts partition IDs
based on that memory.

The way to avoid the problem is to run the installer through the old C:
partition delete and/or format, and then ABORT the install process,
start it again via reboot, and run it to completion.

Hope this makes sense. Haven't had enough coffee yet.
