Hi,

I have a Gateway 500X retail desktop that has a non-operational motherboard.
Do I have to get the exact same motherboard(model number) to replace it or
can I get another Gateway/emachine motherboard with a different model number,
and be able to re-install/activate Xp?

Thanks for any help...

In order to use the version of XP that came with your computer, you would
need to replace the motherboard with the exact model it came with. If
Gateway no longer makes the motherboard and/or won't support that machine,
you'll need to purchase a retail copy of XP. Possibly you can still find
one at NewEgg or Amazon. The alternative would be to use a generic OEM
install disk and use the Product Key on your COA sticker. You will probably
have to call in for activation. Obviously if you don't have a generic OEM
install disk you would need to buy one and at that point you'd be better
off buying a retail version.

Why ask HERE? What mainboard you choose is personal preference.
Choose whatever you want

Congratulations. You just fragmented your own thread. Next time
reply to the original thread, don't start a new one.

Or he might be able to find that MB on eBay.

I see you're off your medication again. I'm not the OP and it isn't "my
thread".

Fsck off.

Dumbass. Look at the thread again. I wasn't responding to you but
the the person that answered you but started a new thread instead of
posting the reply to the original thread.

Now you've been given two notches in the dumbass stick.

Edric is the resident ****wit.

You may safely ignore him. Everyone else does.

I'm sure he's quaking with fear - NOT!

True. He probably has as much fear of me as I do of YOU...NONE.

Hypocrite.

Obviously you haven't covered what a hypocrite is at school yet as you
clearly have no idea.

AFAICT, MI5 and a bit has never obsessively posted about other people asking
questions that he deems not to be relevant to the newsgroup. Thus he cannot
possibly be a hypocrite. It should be obvious to everyone that you merely
ascribe the label in an failed attempt to direct attention away from
yourself.

OK, so that's two times you show ignorance in what a hypocrite is. So
your new title is Idiot.

Once again you prove me correct beyond anything I could possibly do myself.
I know what a hypocrite is. You obviously do not. Since MI5 and a bit has
never posted the crap that you do and actually tries to help people, the
term hypocrite just doesn't apply.

What is it about you that drives you to be such a nasty objectionable piece
of shit? I'll bet all the other boys bully you at school. I can't imagine
why.

Yes- Bill I did find it on ebay and waiting on it to come in. Homer S. thanks
for your suggestions, and Edric- I'm not sure what your issue is, but this is
an open forum and I asked a legitimate question regarding XP reactivation. At
anytime I choose too, I will ask any question here I want. If you have a
problem with my question move on or "FO".... I really don't care to waste my
time reading replies from jerk offs that have nothing to do with what I
asked.

Boo ****in' Hoo. You want to play with the big boys, be prepared to
get your feelings hurt.

Oh, and the replies go down here, dip.

As has already been pointed out, Edric is a total ****wit who thinks he has
the right to decide who posts what on this newsgroup.

He doesn't.

He hasn't started a new thread at all. All the posts are under one thread,
so it is you who are wrong here. Unless you've ****ed up the school
computer again.
