I have an AMD 2200+ and i have pc2700 ram. I need to buy a new motherboard.
my usb ports are not working. how do i make I buy a motherboard that works
with this chip and RAM? What do i look for? When I bought it I got a combo.
I just need a motherboard this time.

You shouldn't have to buy a new motherboard. Make sure the USB ports are enabled in the BIOS. If you can't get the motherboard ports to work you can buy a PCI card with USB ports.

Another possibility is that your old board has USB version 1.0 and doesnt
work
certain USB devices very well - a new board should (but check to make sure)
have USB 2.0 which is better. If you do get a new board what you want is
Socket A board that takes DDR ram which is standard now. You should be
able to pick up a nice Asus or Abit board for £35-£45.

Ever consider to get usb PCI card instead?

To get into the BIOS you have to press the correct key during boot, usually a function key, del, or escape, but that is not your problem since windows sees the ports. Try removing the USB ports in device manager, then reboot to reinstall the drivers.
