Hi,
My MSI motherboard or my athlon cpu gave up the ghost
the other night. What do i need to do when I'm ready to
boot up after replacing the MB and CPU. Will I need to
reinstall XP pro? I'm getting a simular motherboard that
take the same VIA chipset drivers. Any help would be
appreciated.

You will most likely need tom perform a Repair Installation to
properly detect the new hardware:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
Windows Updates will need to be reinstalled.
Install Service Pack first and by itself.
Then install ALL Critical Updates no more than 4 at a time,
Disconnect the network/modem cable before starting repair and do NOT
reconnect the cable until repair is completed and firewall is
installed/enabled.

If Windows XP is OEM, the above may not be possible unless the
replacement is from the same source as original.

Greetings --

Unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the old one
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Probably won't need to do anything if it's the same type motherboard. Even if
it's not the same XP should bootup and say found new hardware.
