Something is amiss with your hardware installation, otherwise you
would at least get something visible on the screen from the BIOS Post.

Diskconnect all of the disk drives (both power and data cables) and
remove all of the accessory cards except for the video card. Unplug
the keyboard, mouse, printer, and anything else connected to USB,
serial or parallel ports. Then try starting up the computer.

If that doesn't work then remove the video card and the RAM and try
again. But make sure the PC speaker (and nothing else) is connected.
You should get a "no RAM" signal from the BIOS, which is usually a
long, low beep.

If that happens then put the RAM into place and try again. You should
now get a "no video" signal which is usually a series of short, higher
pitched beep.

And if you don't get a "no RAM" signal then something is amiss with
the motherboard or the CPU.

Good luck

hi Ron, thanks for replying to my little problem. this is actually alot
harder than i thought. i tried all that you said, but theres no beeps at all,
tried 2 speakers and connector both ways, but no joy. i then took all apart
and refitted the lot, but i think the spirit of this motherboard has gone on
HOLIDAY or something. Is there anything else i can do. this board is only 2
days old now so must be working. thanks simon.

Just because it's new, it doesn't mean it has to work. It could be defective
from the factory, or it could be a customer return that got put back on the
shelf.

Check EVERY jumper on the motherboard to make sure they're all there and
they're all where they are supposed to be.

Reset the bios.

What is the mobo's make model etc..? The video card, what is it, who makes it?
Is the keyboard plugged in a ps2/usb, could you have the keyboard plugged in
the mouse socket by mistake? Is the video card fully seated and locked in
place? Is the extra 12v 4 pin power connector attached to the mobo, or
connected to the video card if needed?

If the board is two days old you might just return it for replacement or
refund, if all else fails..

hi mr currie, thanks for replying. all jumpers are there mate, but thinking
back you could be right, because box wasn't sealed or anything, just closed,
but all was with it and unopened. theres actually only 2 jumpers, 1. cmos
reset 2. JP2 which is lan led connector. supposing board is fine, do you have
any suggestions mate, shop i got it from is a bit funny about returns, it
took me 3wks returning a stick of ram. thanks mate, simon.

hey there jaymon, thanks for replying. mobo's model is EagleTec M830LU, vga
card is PNY nvidia geforce FX 5200 PCI, not agp which is what most bios
defaults are, would this be a problem, do i need to use agp to change bios
setting to pci? keyboard is in correct ps/2, what do you mean by extra power
connector? do you mean the pentium4 one, if so my cpu is AMD athlon 1333.
please any more ideas, thanks.

Ask elsewhere. This is not an XP problem.

wish everyone was as nice a guy as you, bet you've got loads of friends havent
you. bye.

Actually I do have loads of friends...but they don't ask irrelevant
questions that have nothing to do with the subject at hand during a
conversation.
