I have a Gigabyte GA-7 (?) motherboard, which has a 40mm
cooling fan fitted. The fan is making a terrible noise,
and I want to replace it before it fails. I am not near
the PC at the moment, so I cannot look at it, and I need
to know what voltage the fan motor runs at. I am assuming
it is 5V? Can anyone please advise?

Mobo has nothing to do with this.

Depends on the fan and the power supply

The power supply for the fan comes from the motherboard,
not the PSU. Therefore, the motherboard "supply" voltage
is what I need.

Oh, so you connected the fan to the mobo connector. (never have done
that myself) Have always used the PSU supplies for the case fans.

However according to the manual for my GA-7VAX all of the connectors
on the motherboard for fans are listed as being 12V.
