Motherboard doesn't work after BIOS update (MSI K8MM-V)

I have motherboard: MSI, K8MM-V, MS-7142 ver: 1
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=173

I have installed LiveUpdate for this product:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=html&name=liveupdate_series

This LiveUpdate asked me to update BIOS. I did it.
All was OK, but after reboot computer doesn't work.
Nothing is on screen, it is black, no initial/problem beep, keyboard
leds doesn't flash, Caps can't flash led too. I've unplugged
peripherals, but it is the same - black screen.

I have Win XP Home SP3.

I found in some file that in that case I should go to "BIOS recovery
method" section in documentation. But there is no such section in any
documentation I found. See:
/12. If your system doesn't boot after you flashed, please refer to
the BIOS recovery method as described/

Any help?

Check the manual. Page 1 has a diagram of your mb. Find JBAT 1 . Page 12
tells the reader to move the jumper to clear the CMOS for recovery and then
replace the jumper.
Don't forget to unplug the computer from the wall before attempting this
procedure. Also remove the battery if this doesn't work for about 10
minutes.
Be interesting to know how this turns out.

also wash the hands to get rid of the static electricity before
touching the motherboard : )

Wash your hands!?! Are you serious?

OP: take static precautions: yes.

I once had a RAM module that was malfuntioning due to fingerprint
looking smudges of grease all over it, presumably resulting in short
circuits. Careful cleaning of the modual resulted in proper functioning.

Of course, that is a different issue.

Well, I guess I do try and not eat cheese puffs when I am building a
computer.

Remove the small battery which keeps the bios settings and wait
a few hours(remove the computer from the mains power).
Or move a small strap close to that battery, to reset bios, apply
power, remove power, move the strap back in place.
Both methods will reset to default settings.
On boot-up, enter the bios, and restore to the factory default.
That should in some cases restore the computer to health.

The silly thing was that this was from an OEM build, so Mr. Profesional,
who gets paid to do this for a living, apparently didn't care to watch
what he was doing.

sorry to say you have only two option here either you cear your bios
and this still continues that means your bios has been infect by virus
you have to change your monther board
search for a mother board of your choice here it athttp://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=x1ijFJ9Dvfc&offerid=1023...

You will certainly find it their

there should be a kind of device that could write directly to the BIOS
ROM chips available at the maintenance point or some retailers.
writing the old BIOS data back to the ROM should be OK. I think the
manufacturer who provide the download of the new BIOS version shoud
afford part of the resposbility.

i've read all of the posts/replies etc,,,, still got me buggered why ppl would want to flash
their bios, never seems to do much.
also, why mess with an o/s that is full of bugs, ie, xp.
i have been running 98se for over 8yrs on same mobo, and i might also add that the sides of my
computer have been off for all that time. i blow the dust out from time to time, and sometimes
remove the vid and ram cards for a quick clean with a fine haired small paint brush.. (u know what i
mean,, artists brush)

go over to the microsoft server and check out the amount of ppl posting questions in the 'xp general
group'..... its like a flood over there, so many ppl with soooooo many problems re: xp.

oh well,,,
happy puting.

ps,, my mobo is an epoch with amd 1.33 cpu.. ram is 512. purrrrrs like a kitten.

Says who?

Windows XP was the first consumer version of Windows with decent
memory management. Compared to Windows 98, Windows XP runs like a
dream.
i have been running 98se for over 8yrs on same mobo,

Like Jan said, Mooner, that has to do with your limited needs and
complacency. This group is mainly for enthusiastic users. Anyone who
enjoys modern robust applications has hugely benefited from Windows
XP memory management.

Running the most exciting current applications would cause Windows
98 to puke frequently. Conversely, Windows XP can run sophisticated
applications for days without a reboot.
and i might also add that the sides of my
computer have been off for all that time. i blow the dust out
from time to time, and sometimes remove the vid and ram cards for
a quick clean with a fine haired small paint brush.. (u know what

When something is very popular, it is thoroughly discussed. The more
popular, the more complaints. That is a simple principle, Mooner.
One reason you find little discussion of Windows 98 in mainstream
groups among active (and especially enthusiastic) PC users is
because we no longer use Windows 98.
oh well,,,
happy puting.

purrrrrs like a kitten.

Mine moves and roars like a lion.

By the way, Mooner, are you a spammer? Almost all USENET spam comes
from your domain. You probably just need a clunker and a good
Internet connection to be a spammer.
