hi

just had an interesting yet frustrating experience, couldn't find any
related info on the net, so I thought I ask.

Abit KV7 mobo v1.0
amd xp2200+
kingmax 512mb ddr400
300w enermax psu
ati aiw 8500dv AGP 4x

I updated mobo bios from ver.13 to ver.17 in preparation for a cpu
upgrade. used Flashmanu from Abit, everything went well. reboot.

system powers up, 1 long beep, 2 short beep, no screen.....tried diff
things....after 30 frustrating minutes, decided to try swaping the
video card. installed a nVidia Ti-4200, it boots up! danced around
the room, went into bios, thought that maybe the new bios might have
an AGP 8x default setting, and it did. changed that to 4x, disabled
the bells and whistles.

swap out nvidia, in goes ati.
1 long beep, 2 short beeps.
swap out ati, in goes nvidia.

I like the ati hardware, but their software is just....sigh. I had
the aiw8500dv for a while now and is very happy with it, other than
the initial installation woes.

does any one know a fix? other than to stick with my Ti-4200.
I need the tv tuner and the dv port on the aiw8500dv.

thanks.

Updated the chipset? even though I know this shouldn't affect the initial
VGA boot...
what does the MB user guide say about that BIOS beep warning?

Check the ABIT newsgroup to see if there are any compatibility problems
between you video card/motherboard/and version of the bios. If there is a
general problem you will find it quickly by googling.

If you find nothing, or people who have no problem whatsoever, then keeping
your Nvidia card in the mobo, I would download the bios again (in case the
first download was corrupted) and try flashing the bios again. Also, make
sure that you are downloading the bios for the right version of your mobo.
I almost got caught once downloading a bios for version 2 and up of my
motherboard and installing it when my mobo was version 1.04. Thank goodness
I double checked before flashing the bios.
