Just wanted to get some opinions - what kinds of checks and diagnostics
do you think a useful "swiss army" networking utility should have?

Ideally, the functionality of:

ethereal
languard net scanner
belarc
pstools
"net" command and switches
"arp" " " "
"nbtstat" " " "
"netstat" " " "

One of the most useful things missing from all but a few is the ability to
sniff a stream and graph bandwidth usage by mac address / ip address or
address-block .

Thanks for the input! Basically, I'm looking to write a versatile
network monitoring/management tool to be used for LAN nodes, public
servers/routers, etc., and servers across the other end of a
site-to-site VPN. I've seen many different tools that were extremely
useful on their own, but very few that incorporate many different
functions into one application!

What a concept! I'd like a touch screen with each user's face as an icon.
Just touch the face and slap at will! Oh, could we also have it touch
sensitive? Some users need to be slapped harder that others.

You probably have to consider designing some kind of "agent" that would have
to be placed at certain locations to report back to the main App what they
"see". A single "local" application isn't going to be as useful as you'd
like all by itself.

I thought maybe they were building it into the keyboards or something.
There's a red sticker on one of mine that says "WARNING: Before using, read
important Computer User Heath information in the User Manual. Heck I figure
it only needs an updated driver and the keyboard will just jump up and smack
'em.
