I am an ISP. One of our customers machines will not
browse a couple specific web sites.
Machine is running Windows XP Home. Plenty of memory and
processor. It picks up a DHCP address properly and can
visit all web sites except www.yahoo.com and any of the
channel links off the www.msn.com web site. There is
nothing wrong with the computer or its ability to browse
except the inability to visit those two sites.
It doesn't matter if the computer is connected via a
broadband connection or a dialup account. It doesn't
matter if it connected to me or through a competitive
ISP.
We can ping yahoo.com from the command prompt.
We have removed all types of parasites, had gator and
mysearch.
We have set the security settings to lowest possible
We have cleared temporary internet files and deleted all
cookies.
We have reset the all advanced settings back to default.
We have removed all certificates.
We have uninstalled all things yahoo related.
We have uninstalled all antivirus software.
We have made sure there were no proxy servers.
We have gone into the registry and removed all references
to yahoo.
We have used a competitor's dns server.
We have gone into msconfig and startup tab and removed
all checkmarks.
We have rebooted the machine many times.
We have run filemon and watched every process. We cannot
find anything strange between a connection to yahoo.com
and any other web site that does work.
We have gone into the registry and cleared all zonemaps.
Yahoo Brazil or any other country works fine.
http://br.yahoo.com/
my.yahoo.com will not respond.
news.yahoo.com wll not respond.
personals.yahoo.com will respond.
We have done everything we can think of short of
reformatting the hard drive.
ANY ideas are welcome.
