Most Likely Cause Of No Beeps At Start of Boot?

This may seem dumb. Maybe it is, but I have to ask.

I have a MOBO, CPU & Heatsink. Boot up does absolutely nothing beyond
powering up the CPU & PSU fans. No raster and no 'beeps'.

I have tried alternative video boards and RAMs.

The obvious probably culprit is the MOBO and/or CPU. But how can I
tell which? I don't have anything to substitute to decide this.

So - I wonder - what is the most likely? CPU? MOBO?

The MOBO is Gigabyte GA-7VAX and the CPU is AMD Athlon Thoroughbred
2GHz.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Did it previously work?
If so, for how long, and what's changed since then?
Did you try clearing the CMOS?

Decent or generic power supply? What make/model/etc?

Probalby not the CPU unless it was damaged during heatsink
installation or heatsink wasn't mounted properly, came off,
or fan failed, overclocking choice of too high a voltage,
etc... in other words, physical or thermal trauma beyond
just running with proper speeds and properly installed
heatsink.

Otherwise, power supply or motherboard are two most common
culprits.

Have any of the parts been confirmed working before or after
this problem surfaced?

You might check voltages with a multimeter.
