Most Current Version

What is the most current version of Windows Messenger? I
am running 4.7 but am told there is a newer version. If
so, what is the most current version and where can I
safely download it from?

There are actually two "current versions" of Windows Messenger.

The latest Windows Messenger 4.7 is 4.7.2009, which you can download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp

The latest Windows Messenger 5.x is 5.0.0482 which you can download here:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=77c3799f-6388-4193-8002-be55584c1ac1

Although they are both Windows Messenger, Windows Messenger 5 does not have all the
functionality of 4.7 and as such, why both are still "current" (as to avoid confusion).
