I have a powerpoint slide show I use to show at meetings.
Some of the slides are animated or morphed with avi
files. It has been working fine until recently when
clicking on the animated slide it just disappears. I got
fed up reinstalled windows xp and office xp. I installed
the powerpoint presintation. Same thing when I click on
the photo to play the avi it disappears. Media player
will play the files ok. I don't get it. Would it be
something from windows updates?

Couple of questions Jeff,

What version of PowerPoint?
Has any additional software been installed since AVI's last played?
Did you mean Media Player, or Windows Media Player?
Does the AVI play within the presentation on your primary monitor, if set-up
to show on Primary Monitor?

Because PowerPoint out-sources multimedia to the operating system, these
difficulties are often tricky to track down. Possible causes include (but
are not limited to) changed/deleted/corrupted Codec, invalid path length,
corrupted MCI settings, or broken links.

We'll need a little more information from you to help solve your difficulty.

The version of powerpoint is on Office XP 2002. The AVI's
do play on the windows media player. Thing that gets me
is that I did a complete reinstall of windws xp and
office xp. I did download the window updates before
trying the presentation. Maybe the problem is there.

Windows Media Player 9.0 shouldn't have changed your MCI settings in any
way. Real Player is one of the real culprits.
