i am having several problems with the fax system.

1) i cannot receive any faxes. they always terminate in an error after about
a minute or so. i am able to send reliably, i just can't receive. when i use
this modem on a system with other fax software (zetafax) it works fine. the
modem is a multitech 28800 multimodem

2) i configured the system to forward emails to my email account, and also
to send an email receipt. but it doesn't seem to work. there are no error
messages,

3) when i try to "mailto" my mailbox manually form the server, i get an
error box that says "Mail system DLL is invalid". i uninstalled the service
an reinstalled it and still get the same error.

i would like to use this service rather than a more complex one (such as
zetafax), so i would appreciate any and all suggestions on how to correct
these issues

thanks

The next time you see this error can you send us the log file. You can find
this at C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\Fax\Incoming\FSPR said:

Just to be sure that - did you configure the SMTP settings in the receipts
tab and also check the "Use these SMTP settings for the Route Through E-mail
incoming routing method" checkbox?

What is the version of C:\Windows\system32\mapi32.dll. You can find this by
opening the folder "C:\Windows\system32" in explorer, selecting mapi32.dll,
right click and select properties. Now click on the version tab.

Do you have exchange server too on this machine?

There is a problem between the different versions of the mapi32.dll's. Fax
needs mapi32.dll version 1.0.2536.0. One workaround could be that - if you
have access to another machine that has the mapi32.dll of this version, you
could copy it to your c:\windows\system32 folder. However be aware that
doing this might have other side effects on exchange server.

FIX TO THIS ISSUE AT http://www.equinox-communications.com/ebboard

Hi

I am getting very worried about the amount of posts that say Microsoft say this is not possible !!!

The whole point of upgrading to SBS2003 was to have fax to e-mail facilities.

Are Microsoft heading forwards or backwards. We DO NOT want to put all our incoming faxes into sharepoint as email is more useful and a known solution.

I have installed an old version of MAPI, Installed Outlook, re installed Fax server and still all I get is 'retrying routing' when a fax arrives. Using the old version of MAPI stop the pop up message but the system still refuses to send email after a profile has been set up using Outlook. Also in doing this the publish to folder option vanishes.

Microsoft will not talk to me about this issue without a credit card number and taking £199+VAT, very helpful. This is from the same company who say the commercial version of software is better supported than open source.!!!

It also concerns me that some Microsoft employees are saying this is not possible even though there is a clear setting for it in the SERVER MANAGER>FAX settings.

Microsoft Press books even show this function being set up on SBS2003.

Has anyone found a fix for this?

I am desperate to nominate one person to handle our faxes via e-mail.

Thanks

Lee Taylor
