More then 10,000 items

When I go to add a resource to a group I'm presented with a long wait while
all objects in the domain are loaded then I get an error indicating that the
domain contains more then 10,000 objects. Is there a way to change this?
If I manually type in the name of the user or group I'll get an RPC failure
if I hit check names prior to getting the 10,000 object error but if I wait
until I get the error I'll find the user or group just fine.
