How do I increase the number of 'Recent Documents'
shown in the Start Menu?

1. Start Regedit.

2. Go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

3. Right click "Explorer", create a DWORD value (select New | DWORD Value)
and name it MaxRecentDocs

4. Double click MaxRecentDocs and enter the number you want in the "Value
data" edit box.

I tried that and it didn't work. Do you have to reboot?

It won't show you your desired number of documents all at once - it will
build up to that number as you open different files.

Yeah. You'll only know it's worked when you've actually opened that many
documents. I set mine to 40 then opened loads of PDF files and it's worked
a treat.

Unfortunately, creating the new DWORD and value appears to wipe the
documents already in the list, but this is a small price to pay.

When I made the change yesterday, it failed to add documents as I opened
them. However, when I rebooted today, it wiped the list clean, then as I
tested it by opening documents, it is building up to the higher number as it
should.

Another question, if anyone is still monitoring this thread-- how can one
sort them by date, so the newest is at the top?
