Can someone explain this to me please.
A DOS like window opens up with '16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem' at the top. I do
not know where it comes from either.

Message is:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\wefds.exe [notice only one backward slash]

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

Thank you in advance

Am guessing - sounds like an old DOS game or something
similar is trying to load and trying to directly address a
hardware component . . . which WinXP will NOT allow . . .
Look in MSCONFIG (Start, Run, type msconfig, hit OK, look
under Startup tab, if found, uncheck it, hit Apply, then
OK the reboot as directed. Or look in the Startup folder
under Programs . . .

Hope this helps. Good Luck !
