well the mvp's supposedly also do work for microfloppy. and
do these boards in their spare time. but they seem to work
their 8 hour shift on the boards and the next mvp takes over.
MVPs do not have to work for Microsoft and there's no "Shifts" it's purely
voluntary, and MVPs get the award AFTER helping for a period of time, it's
not a "Job" anyone can apply for.
My own job has recently changed and demands more time than previously, I am
answering this and then heading off to work. I regret that I don't have as
much time to answer questions as I did last year but that's life. The MVPs
do get some support from Microsoft officially, that is MS provides private
groups to help keep ahead of things and lay on a conference once a year at
Redmond in case MVPs want to go and expand their knowledge of MS products,
but this is in the hope that interested people will "Volunteer" their time
next year, in other words it's a reward not a contract of employment.
Of course you see some MVPs at regular times, that's because most of us work
regular hours elsewhere and our free time is therefore regular.
As to your observation regarding the numbers of questions well, that should
tell you that MS couldn't possibly "Employ" enough people to deal with them,
especially since most of the question here are repeats of typical problems
that are "New" only to that user. You can just this by searching the group
for "Spyware" or "Hijacking".
So there you go, some answers from an MVP who actually works as a
maintenance man at a Healthcare facility, nowhere near Redmond.
Hope this helps to clear up any misunderstandings.
