Maybe the next one will be male/female as in screw threads, ie nut,
bolts, plumbing piping, electrical connectors.
Then we would have the following news article:
"The city of Los Angeles has asked hard drive manufacturers to, again,
change the way they label hard drive positions after an unnamed worker filed
a lawsuit in the 6th district court. Apparently, the worker saw two hard
drives, with the top one (or first on the cable) labeled male and the bottom
as female. In the lawsuit, the worker claims that the naming scheme is
discriminatory because it puts females in a submissive position.
Hard drive manufacturers have been busy renaming the positions of their
drives or have switched to putting them side by side."
Also, I'm surprised that we haven't seen this news article:
"The Los Angeles city school district has asked electrical, plumbing, and
hardware manufacturers to change their naming conventions, after a lawsuit
was filed in the 99th district court. For innumerable years, the three
industries have referred to mating parts as either male or female, depending
on whether the parts have a point or a hole, which accepts that point,
respectively.
The plaintiff alleges that the parts are called male or female because they
resemble penises or vaginas. The damage, according to the plaintiff, is
done when, instead of calling the parts simply "penis" or "vagina", the
industries have equated penis with male and vagina with female. This is
harmful to youths, who, because of the three industries, have objectified
the opposite sex - it is reported that the plaintiff's young son was harmed
when a girl at his school called him a penis, after he said something
stupid. The boy told his mother and she complained to the school board.
Their was an investigation, which uncovered the use of plumbing, wire
connectors, and structural hardware in all classrooms. No one from the
school board has returned our call, asking how these parts went unnoticed
for so long.
In the meantime, the industries are changing the way they refer to products
or are suggesting that schools and daycare facilities remove plumbing,
screws and bolts, and wiring connectors from their facilities. One
representative told NewsWire that the wiring itself would be allowed to
remain."
Ok, so I took it a bit too far, but I'm bored waiting for a 250 GB drive to
format.
