More permanent "Fit to Page" in Word?

I was looking to set a Fit to Page measurement in a Word document,
like we can do in Excel, but I found only a reference to a temporary
FtoP option:

What is a more permanent way to set it as a document default, like we
can do in Excel?

Word has limited capabilities in this respect. What you can do is choose the
"2 pages per sheet" option in File | Page Setup (Layout tab). If I remember
correctly, this option should be available in Word 2000 (it's been a while
since I used that version).

Yes, that's what I found. However, I doubt that the settings will be
kept "permanently". That's the problem. I'll try it out but Word
seems to often "forget" settings such as these between sessions.

Settings in File | Page Setup are saved with the *document*. However, it
won't be a default setting in Word, until you click the Default button in
the dialog box; it will then be saved to the attached template (which is
normal.dot unless whoever created the document explicitly chose a different
template).

If you find that clicking the Default button doesn't work, something is
preventing you from saving to your template. If you are on a company
network, the network administrator may be that "something."

That's great. I'll definitely have to look at this again. It's only
the one document that I must fit-to-page but if the setting is at the
very least semi-permanent (until the normal.dot reference is changed),
then that's a whole lot better than what I thought I had. That's
great. I'll be able to leave the document in good shape for my
successor then.

Note that if you are only modifying one particular document, the setting
will be permanent (for that document).

different from "2 pages per sheet" in the Print dialog.
