Earlier I postedquestions about networking two computers without internet
connection (11-30-2007 Simple Network). With suggestions from responses to
this posting I was able to set static IP address and get bot computers to
recognize the netwotk, or at least I think they recognize it. When I open My
Network Places and drill down through Entire Network and Microsoft Windows
Network, each computer shows the icon for my LAN (i.e., Tpcnet).
However, when I click on that icon on either computer it responds with the
message "Tpcnet is not available - You might not have permission ..."

Also, when I try to specify that a folder is to be shared I get the message
"Error occurred while trying to share "folder_name". The Server service is
not started. A shared resource was not created at this time."

What can I do to get around this?

As additional information, I looked in Help at the grant incoming coonection
access rights to your computer thinking this might help me. It instructs me
to Open Network Connections and then says to "Click Incoming Connections, and
then, under Network Tasks, click Change Settings connection." When I go to
Network Connections there seems to be no "Incoming Connections" option to
click.

Any and all assistance I can get is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ted

The Server sevice is normally active all the time, so this tends to suggest
some kind of fundamental system problem.

Of course, it's possible that someone has disabled the service manually at
some time in the past - we do this on LANs where we don't want users creating
ad-hoc shares. Have a look in Control Panel>Computer Management>Services and
check its status. If you try starting the Server manually, it should tell you
if there is a reason why it can't start, and that may clue you as to the
problem.

While the Server is stopped, it has a side-effect that the Computer Browser
service stops too, thus you cannot use "My Network Places" in this
condition.
