If you have been following my tale of woe you know I backed up everything to
d: and then installed RC2. (See the post on Shot my self in the foot.)

After recovery things are going along very nice indeed.
1. I was able to import all the mail from the d: drive essentially just by
point to it using File | Import. Only problem was that the some folders did
not get in the right places in the tree. Oh well. I have been known to drag
folders inside Windows Mail. I'm not sure that the hard drive folder
structure follows suit.

NOTE TO MS LURKERS: It would be well if the hard drive folder structure
always followed the WM folder structure. The number one talking point for
windows mail is that it uses individual files rather than a database to
store the mail. The more the actual file structure follows the users desired
structure the better.

2. I'm guessing but don't know that the import also brought in a second
account from the old system that I had not yet configured on the new. Nice,
but I'm not sure that this should be done without asking. OTH I may have
done an import mail accounts. I'm just not sure at this point. (Way too
early in the morning when I did this with way too little sleep.)

3. NOTE TO MS LURKERS: The more I play with WM the more I'd like to see the
response of the message list pane be a lot smoother. I don't update the
display in my list boxes until after all the changes are made. Normally this
is best practice. Whether it's the way WM works is not clear. WM is fast
enough and boxes need to be hot enough to run Vista that list box displays
should be smoothly updated after all activity is done, IMHO.

I'm really pleased.

Regards,
Al Christoph

Since the account information is stored in a XML file in the message
store location, the previous accounts are indeed automatically created
anew when importing/switching to an existing message store. Note that
the account passwords are *not* retained!
