Let me go more into the detail of my problem.
When I go to start/search a "web-like browser" will open, the dog will be in
the lower left corner, and the rest of the page is blank.
When I go to start/all programs/ sytem restore, I get a blank page.
WHen I go to microsoftupdate . com, I get a blank page.
I have read on a newsgroup that my problem could be associated with activeX.
One solution was to install a file called scripten.exe. I downloaded the
program to the desktop and tried to install it. I got a window that popped
up that said the file was not signed as being a WInXP file. See the
manufacturer for details. I also tried installing the file from a cd I
burned on another computer - same result.
Also, when I do a restart, I get an application error for Windows media
player 9.0
I tried to install Windows Media Player 10.0, hopeing that would fix the
problem. I got the same error message as when I tried to install the
scripten.exe file. File is not signed as a WinXP file.
Prior to all of this, I removed Norton 2003, Defender 2005, installed AVG v.
7.0 and removed 4 viruses, installed Lavasoft's spyware utility and ran the
prgram, and installed and ran Spybot's Search and Destry utility.
Any help is appreciated.
