"More" details in Win Explorer lost in copying.

I re-set the columns in the Details view of folder contents to show Title and
Comments - these are useful, especially for pictures but for other filetypes as
well.
For one thing, they show up when the mouse cursor hovers over the filename.

When I copy such files to my laptop through an 802.11g network link, the details
setting reverts to default. The system did display a warning that extra
information could be lost.

This is annoying because I put a lot of work into adding appropriate titles and
comments to Picture files.

Is there any way round this problem? I'm using Win XP Pro, fully updated, on
both, and ZoneAlarm firewall.

Unfortunately View/Details has to be configured individually for each folder - I
would love to be able to change the default setting for the whole of Windows
Explorer! It is not affected by the "set all folders like this one" option.

Even after re-configuring the folder to show Title and Comments, the information
is missing from the copied files.

Do you have the View->Details setting on the laptop configured as you do on
the PC?

To configure all of Explorer to be set to the same view open the folder and
configure it. Then from the windows menu bar click on Tools->Options->Views
Tab and click the "Apply to all folders" button and OK out.

If that doesn't work then try this: Open the folder you want to change. Set
the view to the desired view. Hold down the Shift Key and click the "X" in
the upper right corner of the windows to close it. This will generally force
the window to retain it's settings.

Sadly, "Details" is not among the options available under "Customise this
folder".
Even if I choose 'Picture album', which gives Thumbnails, with 'Apply to all
subfolders' ticked, and then click Apply and OK, that doesn't happen. It seems
there's no way.

However, I'm cheered - I find that the info of Titles and Comments, introduced
in the PC, has in fact copied to the laptop via Wi-Fi link - it is revealed when
the appropriate columns are revealed in the 'Details' View - but this has to be
done for each individual folder.

Thanks for your advice.

Yours sincerely, -
