Greetings-
Just got here, went back 1,200 posts or so, didn't find an answer...
My 45G 75gxp just did the click - whirr of death...probably didn't hear any
earlier complaints from it due to the excessive number of fans in my
machine...BIOS no longer sees it...argh.

Called IBM, they tell me it's out of warranty...friends tell me these NEVER go
out of warranty, IBM should replace it...who's right?

AND, if the well meaning friends are...how do I go about it?

(no longer have the paperwork, don't even remember WHERE I bought it.)

I've never heard of a hard drive with a liftime warranty. The 75GXP's
warranty was three years.

So you can't prove when you bought it, and IBM/Hitachi would win the
argument. Even if you could prove your purchase date, it wouldn't be
worth the fight. Do you really want a refurbished Deathstar? Just go out
and buy a new drive -- preferrably a Seagate or Western Digital.

go to www.hgst.com and find their warrently checking tool you have to key in
the drives serial number... i bought mine early 2001 and its failing just
recently on and off.... thank god its just my secondary drive!!!

I am in the process of replacing mine.
