hey guys. thanks for the heads up about the virus, but i
cant find any of the stuff it sez on that site on my
comp, and norton still isnt picking it up. however, i did
find ieplore32.exe in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
to rocket, i do have a firewall, spybot, adaware, norton,
and they r all up to date, but thanks for "stickin ur
nose in". any constructive comments are appreciated.
to chuck, yeah, i looked at the properties for
ieplore.exe when u first suggested it, and there is
NOTHING there. it has all the titles, but after that they
are all blank. no author, or version number or origin or
anything.
i got the progs u suggested, and will have a good look at
the startup, and will goto that other forum next time im
on. finished work late, so im goin to bed now.
ps i wondered why no one had answered my post on swi
pps does anyone know how long it will take norton to
catch up if i do have a virus?
ppps is it easier to answer u guys in my old post, or to
make a new post with same subject like i have been doing?
i think that is about it for now.....

Bryan,

I'm not surprised that ieplore32.exe doesn't show any version
information. That pretty much rules out it being a Microshit product.
We just have to see if any spyware experts can find out anything.

I suggested you post to WildersSecurity cause SWI Forum was just moved
to a new server - the workaround they put in place lets you post
articles on their server but it doesn't seem to produce an index that
lists your article. Which is why no one has answered your post.

Try posting again in SWI Forums, it looks like new posts are being
properly indexed. And post to Wilders too.

If you keep posting here with the same subject, and ansewering my
posts, I'll be able to see your posts. MPWPM is a pretty busy forum,
so it is easy to miss seeing a new thread. If you use the same
subject, and answer this post, I'll see your post as a reply in this
thread.

I don't think this is a virus - so Norton willl never detect it as
such. Symantec is starting to integrate spyware detection into NAV
(they have option selections that mention spyware detection), but no
serious spyware analyst, that I've read advice from, mentions
depending upon NAV for protection against spyware - AdAware,
HijackThis, and Spybot are still the tools of record.

Keep posting your HJT log and somebody with expertise will see it
eventually.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

i owe a very huge apology to technofile. how huge? think
of the biggest object u know of, and think larger. norton
just came up with about 50 messages saying that i have
agobot virus (and it is ieplorer.exe) and that it cant
get rid of it. riddle solved. now i just gotta get rid of
it..... cheers chuck 4 all ur help, i got alot of useful
stuff tryin to fix this. dunno y it took norton so long
to pick it up, but oh well.
