This service acts a little strange....

In other occasions it starts downloading the new updates right away
and in others (on another computer of course) you wait and wait and it does
not download them,

even though in BOTH cases the connection is idle....

is there any way to FORCE windows automatic updates to check and download if
something is available?

Also I have noticed that when you restart you can see that service as a
program in the task manager.
Then after some time, it vanishes....

why? Shouldnt it be running all the time to check?

If you are doing it manually - it is no longer automatic - so just do it
manually.

Then you have full control. And remember the scheduling - after the second
tuesday of each month, you can check for the latest patches. It does not
mean you have to wait - as you can check often as you like - but after the
second Tuesday of each month is after they release the patches 99% of the
time.

ok but why does it check on some systems right away but on others
it may take several hours?
