I installed the entire Office 200, including the Excel onto the XP Professional. Went back and did a repair, in case I messed it up. It'should be there. But Excel does not come up in my program files. Funny thing after doing I don't know what, I've ended up with a direct short cut on the main start screen, on the left side to Microsoft Word. That's really nice but I have no clue how it got there. I can bring up an Excel program thru the drives and click on it directly to get Excel, but to go to it as a program, doesn't happen.

To date I have not found a single file/folder in the "search" icon, even when I know it is there. In the old 98, you could find nearly anything you forgot where it was placed. Now, I'm feeling quite lost. Any suggestions to replace the old "find" process

There is no longer a start~run feature with XP, from there I could check what was in my msconfig. Especially if I wanted to change the configuration of the start menu. How do you get there in XP? Can you help?

Start>run is the same with XP as with 98. See if the Run Command is enabled
by right clicking on Start and select Properties. Under the Start Menu tab
click on Customize and then the Advanced tab. Scroll down and check the box
"Run Command".

Using Windows XP many more files are hidden so you may need to enable show hidden files. Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings.

The search facilty in Windows Explorer is different in Windows XP. Enter Search in the Search box -Start, Help and Support for more information.

Is your computer standalone or networked? How are you logging on?

Now I looked long and hard for an explanation for the non-appearance of the Run option!

I'm quite disappointed by XP's search tools as well. While I'll use it for
a quickie search, I use third party software for any serious searching.
Have used both of the following (currently using the shareware program):

Free: Agent Ransack (www.agentransack.com)
Shareware: FileLocator Pro (same author as the above program; same site)
