Hello all,

I'm idly thinking about getting a TV card, but I don;t really know much
about them and I have some questions:

1) I'm in the UK, and use Telewest's digital cable and Bband service. Can I
plug this into a TV card, and if yes, how would I do that?
2) Assuming I can, am I able to record the signal to my HD? So if there's
something on that I like, I can start & stop recording with one click?
3) Is there software that comes with the card that offers VCR-type
functionality? Timers etc?
4) Can the Card only interpret channels from whatever domestic arrangement
you already have, or is there a way of getting other, new channels?

Sorry if these seem like really dumb TVC newbie questions, but that's
because they are.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Yes. Depends on card. All I have seen have single click recording
3) Is there software that comes with the card that offers

..How long is a piece of string. Rule of thumb.....the more you pay, the more
likely to get extra facilities/funtionalty

Dont know, try here(you're buying the bloody thing ;-) )

I had a Cable & Wireless cable TV feed connected to my PC and it worked
fine. You'll still have to use the box as normal connected to the TV card
and just tune the TV card into the box (or use the Cable boxes s-video/audio
outputs to the TV cards inputs - if so equipped).

As for software coming with the card to do PVR (personal Video Recorder)
functions, it depends what card you get as to what software comes with it. I
have (several ATI All In Wonder Radeon based) cards and these perform as a
graphics card as well as TV Tuner. They also came with all the software to
provide PVR capability (ATIs Multimedia Centre). You'll be limited to the
channels that are available from your cable feed which should at least
include all the terrestrial ones).

You may also want to ask Telewest on any suggested digital TV Tuner
hardware. Sky will soon be coming out with a TV tuner which does away with
the need for the box altogether - ie satellite dish plugs straight into the
TV, perhaps the cable companies will do the same?
