Moraff's Mahjongg not too bad

Just wanted to mention for those who like traditional Mahjongg,
that Moraff's Mahjongg isn't a bad download. It is free, but
nagware -- an ad comes up each time you turn off the program. You
can kill it with a click, so it isn't too annoying. The set of
tiles the author has used is really attractive, much nicer than
any other tile set I've ever seen. The free version is just the
basic Mahjongg, but if (like me) that's all you play, it will be
enough. I uninstalled about three-quarters of the files of the
program, since most of the download isn't needed to run the game.
Too bad Moraff wouldn't strip it down so that the free version
contained just the basic game, without additional graphic files or
browsers or sound files, but I guess he wants to show off the
additional features of the full pay version. I'm using version 1.1.

Al,
Nagware isn't freeware.

Only for the first 30 days, then you'll have to click on nearly ten
checkboxes to get rid of the nagging.

And it is OLD - the first version came out in 1995 or 1996.

Al,

Some nagware is a pretty good deal. I've been running Power Desk
for years. Technically, it's nagware since a splash screen comes
up for about two seconds once a day on shutdown, but it is a very
good value for free.

I'm going to check your page out now. But I'm betting you don't
have a program listed with as nice a tile set as Moraff's. It's a
photo-realistic reproduction of a traditional Chinese set made of
ivory and what looks like rosewood. The images on the tiles are
hand painted. I'll have a look, though.

gee...that would be really annoying to me! Sure will avoid it
myself.

I'm not rigid when it comes to nagware - I use PowerDesk and think it's the
best file manager around. But the nag on this Mahjongg program includes an
AUDIO pitch by the company. That's the worse nag I've ever seen. But I'm
going to try the program for awhile. I've had a hard time getting a
Mahjongg program I really like, and this looks like a good one. Most of
the ones I've tried are either too small on the screen, don't have enough
3D, have ugly tiles...or in the case of a nagware one that was otherwise
perfect...it used DirectX...and kept causing may fans to turn on. So, it
seems, you have to either accept nags or other limitations. At least
that's been my experience. I've downloaded some of the ones on Vegard's
page. We'll see if they're any better.

Batch file to the rescue (to delete two files it creates.) You just
won't be able to accumulate stats.

Tinyjong v2 from 95 is my favorite tiles game period. And only 248kb.

I've been using it for longer than 30 days. No additional nags.
But then, I've uninstalled all the graphic files and all the sound
files, and the three browsers that are added to the program, along
with all the other useless crap I could find. I have my mouse
button set to close a program with one click. When the nag screen
comes up, I click, and it's gone before I even see it.

Hi Al;
I bought Moraff's Mahjongg a few years ago; paid $20.00 Canadian. The
paid-for version also has a bloody nag screen. Same thing with Hoyle's
Casino. When you exit either PAID-FOR game, you get nagged with an
advert for their other games. P.S. Nag-ware is NOT freeware, it is nag
ware.
