The best tools would be the activity log on your firewall or router - you do
have one, don't you? If not, Zone Alarm Free is good

Download).

Also, I use Port Explorer, which includes a small packet analyser
<http://www.diamondcs.com.au/portexplorer/index.php?page=home>. Or TCPView
<http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml>. Both Port Explorer
and TCPView will identify the process generating the traffic, which you can then
check out further with Process Explorer
<http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml>.

And, Les, identifying excessive traffic is a good idea. Another good idea is
cutting down on it, by reducing spam. Please don't contribute to the spread and
success of email address mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address
properly, to keep yourself a bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect
