Hi Group
I am looking to have a printer dedicated to mono work and wonder if any
particular brands/models are suitable for producing black and white photos
at A4. I would like to keep costs as low as is practical for a quality
print.
Thanking you all

Mono work printer?

I print the occasional b&w photo converted from original color on my
Canon iP5000 and i860 printers. I'm no photo/printer expert but I
believe you still need to use color inks (mixed) to get the proper
greyscale. I'm not sure if you're asking if there is a printer that
uses just black ink to print photos. And I've never heard of a strictly
b&w photo printer. But that's just me. Maybe someone else can add their
two cents worth. . .

As for keeping costs "as low as possible", if you have to ask then
the suggestion is to use compatible cartridges. Using printer brand
cartridges can put you in the poor house very rapidly, depending on how
many photos you plan to print per week. Cheaper still would be to use
bulk inks and refill them yourself. Instructions are all over the Net.
With bulk inks I can refill a set of Canon cartridges for around $5.00.
Good compatibles (prefilled) cost about that much each per cartridge.
The choice is yours. Experiment. That's the best way to learn. I use
both bulk and prefilled inks and have suffered no ill consequences to
speak of. In the process I have saved hundreds of dollars. The money
saved pays for my next printer.

Hi

Probably your best bet would be a 5 colour Printer, and then to use the
Lyson range of Black Inks in it. It is best if the printer is kept for
Black Printing, because in order to change from Colour to Black, or back
again, the Printer needs to be flushed clean with the special fluids.

You didn't mention what quality. If you mean b/w good quality photos (mainly
in special paper) you can choose an inkjet. If you mean a monochrome laser
printer, just choose the higher dpi, e.g. 1200dpi, for better grayscale
tonal.

Lyson, Media Street, MIS. All viable solutions. Otherwise a printer
like the HP 8750 isn't a bad choice that offers a three level grey
cartridge.

We know that the text is pigment ink, but what would the effect be i
you swapped the coloured tanks for dye blacks, so you had four black
installed

Just one of my loose brain cells rattling...

Maybe the heads are different for the main three colours because o
the varying dye

What say anyone..

Hi
Thanks for the info. I think there is an HP printer that is particularly
good for mono but I cannot remember the model. It was an A4 printer

Any of the recent Photosmart printers that support the #59 or #100/102
cartridges are designed especially for this. Some examples include the
following:
Photosmart 8000 series,

Photosmart All-in-one 2600 series,

Also, the Photosmart 8700 series prints A3/B size up to 13"x19", see

Epson R2400 gives a beautiful black and white print. Has several extra black
inks and a special section where you can tweak your settings to get the
black and white print you want.

THERE ARE NOT ANY

Can't trust Canon, cause "DA ARE IN DA BUSINESS"
THAT IS A BIG PAIN IN DA ASS AND BEWERE OF THE CLOGS IN DA PRINTHEAD,
I DON'T KNOW THAT THIS IS TRUE, BECAUSE I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE, BUT I SAY
IT ANYWAY, BECAUSE I BELIEVE WHAT CANON TOLD ME, EVEN THO "DEY ARE IN DA
BUSINESS"
NO COLLEGE. HE DID NOT EVEN GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL
(Translation: graduate from high school)
But Measly can't, 'cause he won't try

Everybody who will sell you ink or cartridges at a reasonable price is
"A WHORE" "in da business" "won't reveal sources"

Canon fits this description, but Measly loves them, 'cause he has a
fortune invested in their overpriced cartridges. They have him "by da
balls"
