Monitoring remote Perfomance Counters

I am currently trying to monitor the performance counter on 3 of my Exchange
5.5 servers. When I try to add counters from any one of those servers, I get
the following error message: 'Unable to connect to machine'. If I try the
same procedure for any one of my other servers, the counter list for that
server populates with no problems.

We are not pushing any domain or local security policies at the present
time. I have gone through the steps listed in the knowledge base for this
error but the problem persists. I am connecting to those servers with an
account that is both a Domain Administrator and Exchange Administrator.

Any clue as to what might be happening?

Thanks for the help.

The remote registry service needs to be enabled on those servers which could
be one possibility if not enabled. I am not sure but possibly the server
service would also need to be running. A network trace on one of the
servers using netmon that it works on could verify that or not if you find
that it uses ports 139 or 445 TCP Also check on those servers to see if
administrators have the user right for "profile system performance" which
they would by default. You may also want to post in one of the Exchange
newsgroups. --- Steve
