everytime i log on to my PC (vista) the monitor will stay on for about
- 10 secs then go idle, but not stand by or shut down. i have to pres
the monitor power button frequently to try and get it to fir
up,eventually(after a few re-boots) it will stay on,the OS is stil
working in the background but no screen.
please help,

Not to be insulting in the least, but have you checked the plug in the
back of the computer? Is it fully seated in the socket and the two
screw tabs tightened down?

Is you video card a separate card, or do you use on-board video? If you
have both, can you replicate the problem with BOTH video adapters?

If it is an LCD flat panel, the backlight and/or inverter could be failing..

Getting a monitor fixed is not cheap. LCD monitor repairers do not grow on
trees, and by the time you have paid for the repair and shipping, you will
have almost paid for a new monitor c/w new warranty..

I have an onboard graphics card

OK. Do you have another computer in the house? If so, plug the monitor
into it and see if the behavior continues. If it does, then the monitor
is bad; if it doesn't, then the specific on-board graphics port is bad.

It does appear that the monitor may be going out, but switching
computers will tell you for sure.
