not completly black i can see very dark icons.

try the monitor elsewhere and/or try another
monitor on this machine. Your problem is
most likely a failing monitor.

monitor is 6month old, LG.

do you maybe know which part is failing in that situations?

tnx

This last question may be more appropriate for an electronics repair
NG. As already suggested by another poster, first confirm that it *is*
the monitor that's failing by connecting it to another computer.

If it's the monitor, there are several possibilities.
1) Low cathode emission of the CRT - not likely considering your
monitor's young age, but not impossible.

2) Control voltages feeding the CRT low, perhaps G2 (screen grid).
Sometimes caused by an ageing series resistor which has gone high in
value. Again not very likely since your monitor hasn't even reached
middle age.

If it's either of these two, it's most likely to be caused by
something like a dry solder which opens up and loses contact after the
set has warmed up.
