Hi!
Recently, I tried to install an Ethernet Card into the open PCI slots
of
my friends comp. I was able to install the card pretty easily (done it
a million times before but when I finally booted up my computer I saw
that my monitor didn't turn on. The power button
of the monitor was turned on and the monitor was waiting for a signal
from the computer telling it to turn on (the comp. was also powered
on)

Ive tried it the other two open PCI slots and it still doesnt work.

Any suggestions?

Check the bios settings...sometimes the PCI slots can be set to auto *or*
have
an irq assigned...whatever the current configuration is...try the other
possibility.

My bet is that you unseated the video card (PCI or AGP as it may be) when
you put the new card in. I'd check that the video card was inserted all
the way. Of course, you didn't mention if you took out the ethernet card
and the monitor then worked again.

The monitor works fine when i take the ethernet card out of the PCI
slot, and i definetly haven't done anything to unseat the video card.

Okay, good to know. In that case I would ask how old is the motherboard?
I remember when older motherboards didn't like to share certain slots, or
more specifically, certain cards didn't share IRQ's well. In those cases,
I found my solution by using a different type of card - either video or
ethernet.

Bad NIC card causing a conflict maybe?

Do you have a different one to try?
