Hi,
The monitor on my desktop automatically switches off everytime windows has
finished loading, and wont turn on again. The computer itself if ticking
over fine, but I cant see anything. When I use safe mode the monitor stays
on. Has anyone any ideas why it would do this or how I can put it right?
Thanks

This can happen because you have a display resolution set that your
monitor can't handle. In Safe Mode, use the Display applet>Settings to
change your resolution to something low like 800x600. Now try to go
into Regular Mode. If the monitor still does not display, the next
troubleshooting steps are:

1. Attach the computer to a different monitor. If the problem goes away,
you know the issue is with your monitor. If not, the issue is with your
video card.

2. Swap out the video card for a known-working one and attach to your
original monitor. If the problem is gone, you know the original video
card is toast and should be discarded.

And as always, ask yourself "what changed between the time things worked
and the time they didn't?". If you know you updated video drivers or
made some other software-related change, roll back the drivers or
reverse the change with System Restore in Safe Mode.

I had the exact same problem. I solved it by pressing F8 at boot up and
selecting the option to enable VGA. Only had to do it the once and it
retained the setting thereafter.
