i have a computer that is a little iffy with boots. i think ive found a
trend though and am a bit stumped..

im a student on a budget so instead of a kvm i use 2 sets of cables and one
monitor to mimic it. thing is, when i boot without the monitor cable
connected to the machine, it doesn't boot. fans run, but no response. it
boots every time with the monitor attached.

any ideas?

thanks alot

How can you tell its not booting without the monitor?
No lights on the HD indicator or what?

Because I cant see how that would anything to do with it at all.
Of course without the monitor plugged in you cant see anything so its
kind of hard to tell if its completely booting up or not except for
maybe beeps and lights on the front of the case.

Some systems won't boot without a monitor or equivilant connected, unless
you disable all errors in BIOS (even there it may not always work). You
normally get beeps to indicate this. Other problem is that the video card
will often read monitor capabilities during boot up (using DPMI), and if
the monitor is not connected, some out of range refresh rates could be
selected that are causing your monitor to stay blank. Learn to swap cables
when you reboot and your problems wiell be over.
