I have just built a new p.c
400w p/s
asus A7N8X-E DELUX m/d
radeon 9600xt v/c
ddr ram
amd 3200xp cpu
xp pro o/s
the problem is that at times when i fire up the p.c the monitor dies,
whilst booteing up the o/s. this is an eratic problem.
the p.c probe prog also does not see the p/s fan.
on another p.c the p.c prog does not see the chassie fan.
any suggestions ???? :? :?

OK, you probably have a defective video card or (more likely) it's not
seated well in the slot. Disconnect power from the computer (don't just
shut it off). Completely remove the video card and then firmly reseat it in
the expansion slot. If that doesn't help, borrow another video card to test
that system. If your health monitoring program is not seeing a fan, that
means there is not a connection for the fan status on the motherboard or IN
the motherboard. Most power supplies don't have a connection to the
motherboard for the motherboard to monitor the fan speed of the power
supply. So I'm not surprised you aren't getting a reading off that
particular fan. On your other pc, it's possible the chassis fan is not
connected to the motherboard, either. Most chassis fans run off of a hard
drive power connector. You CAN hook up a chassis fan to the motherboard to
monitor it's speed, but it needs a three pin connector. If there is only a
two-pin connector on the chassis fan, then there is no way for the
motherboard to sense the speed of that fan. -Dave

yep cheers for that, pulled everything to bits & back together
again, seemed to have remidied the prob, simple things can still
cause a bother, thanks for the help.
