Monitor Screen Display

My CRT monitor sometimes has a completely yellow screen, which returns to
normal later. Is this a sign that the monitor is on the way out, or is there
something wrong with the computer itself.

The first thing to check is that the cable connection from the monitor to
the computer is securely fastened and screwed down. My guess is that it's
loose.

How long has it been since you updated the display drivers..? Do you have an
on board display or a display card..? If the display is on the mobo, you
might check the OEM's site for your specific computers make and model, to see
if there are and updates for the onboard display.. Make sure connections are
secure too..

Drivers either work or they don't. They don't degrade over time. The lack of
applying an upgrade wouldn't cause such a problem.

Yes, that last is my guess too, as I said in another message.

Sorry Ken, didn't intend to ruffle your feathers..

Thought I was asking the OP a question, that in my mind would rule out a
bad, corrupted, or out of date display driver..

A few weeks ago I had a problem that affected the monitor displaying strange
color bars or solid colors and at times would just go dark when starting the
computer from a cold boot.. I found myself having to start several times and
noticed the windows logo was multi colored, before finally returning to
normal.. This went on sporadically over time, not really annoying me. It
really started acting up a few weeks ago.. I finally realized it had been
over a year since I had updated my Radeon 9600XT cards driver, so I was
crossing my fingers.. I haven't had the problem reoccur since I did the
update, so go figure..

Over time drivers do need to be updated, never said anything about them
degrading, those are your words, not mine..

It's just good common since to check connections too, as you mentioned, just
seconding that shouldn't be misconstrued otherwise..

There is a good possibility the OP won't even respond.. It surely won't hurt
to update the display drivers in any case, if so or perceived so, then they
can just roll it back to the original..

Again, didn't intend to invoke your wrath..
Happy New Year..
Cheers

No, much too strong a phrase. I would hope that we can disagree about
something without any "wrath" ( to use the other much too strong word I see
you used below). If I came across as anything even close to wrathful, my
apologies.

OK, my point is just that if an old driver worked without being yellow
yesterday, it wouldn't suddenly change to yellow today. Moreover, even if it
did, if the driver were the problem, it wouldn't suddenly return to normal
after a while.

My *guess* is that whatever the problem was, updating the driver had nothing
to do with its going away.

I don't agree. I don't believe in updating drivers unless the computer is
exhibiting a problem that the new driver is known to fix. It's an old maxim,
but a good one: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

No wrath at all. We can disagree about something peaceably.

Happy new year to you too.

No problem here, Ken..

To bad the OP hasn't confirmed whether anything suggested worked, failed or
didn't apply.. Probably was just a bad connection and away they went, give
yourself a green check mark..

No, my monitor cable isn't foulty at all. Is u r monitor cable foulty?

I'm not the one with the problem. Please be careful which message in the
thread you reply to.
