Hi all, just recently the my monitor seems to have failed to display red.
all red now appears black? Is there a common diagnosis for this?

Thanks

Is this a CRT monitor? If so it means the red gun in the CRT has failed for
some reason.
It may be something simple like a dry solder joint or as serious as CRT
failure.
Best bet is take it to a good TV engineer.

YEs.

1. Loose fitting cable to the back of your pc
2. Bent or missing pin on the monitor cable
3. Bad monitor

To diagnose, connect a known good monitor.

Connect up a good monitor and if it works with your computer, then you know
if your monitor has actualy failed.

The loss of a colour channel can be from a cold solder connection, poor
contact, or failed components. It is also possible that the picture tube has
been failing. You would have to bring the monitor to a service centre to
have an estimate and service it.

you've lost the red channel. This is usually caused at the plug on the
monitor video lead, either a bent, dirty or pushed back pin, or less
oftena loose connection in the plug. A waggle of the lead & plug often
restores it.

thanks all. had hoped this was a uber quick fix but i guess not. its one of
those shoddy built-in cables so even if it was that i wouldn't know. nice
excuse to get a TFT i guess. cheers

Loss of only one channel can indicate (Red E-gun Failed, Red SIG-Line
shorted to GND or OPEN, DAC in Video Card)

I would try another monitor, if works then good it's not your
VID_Card, look in the end of your monitor cable, are there any bent
pins, if not plug in the monitor in question to a known good video
card, wiggle the cable while watching something red on the screen
(find cable short), if not then I'd say she's pooched

CRT's are so hard on the eyes anyways
