Monitor problems with KVM and WinXP

I have started to use a KVM between 2 PCs, one running WinXP and the other
running Win98.

I have no problems with the Win98 machine but unfortunately the WinXP
machine disregards the installed monitor and uses the "Default Monitor"
which is as about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

How can I force WinXP to work to a fixed screen resolution and refresh rate?
 
Start by making sure you have the correct video adapter driver
installed. "Not the default XP included one", but the one for the card
from the manufacturers web site.
 
I've installed the drivers from a CD which came with the motherboard. These
are SIS drivers but I can't see any way of turning off the I2C comms to and
from the monitor.

I have since found a driver for the Iiyama monitor though my monitor model
number is not mentioned on the Iiyama website! This may help?
 
In that case, Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Adapter, List all
modes, pick your preference, and apply.
 
Many thanks for your reply but I've done that. If the machine starts up
with the KVM switched to the other PC or from when both are off the monitor
becomes the "default monitor" type. This would be OK if the mode of
1600x1200 would be within the accepted range of the default monitor.
However the max resolution seems to be 1024 x 768 which isn't acceptable.
WinXP desktop is panned to see the whole desktop when you moved the mouse.

If the PC is rebooted the monitor is still remains the "default monitor" and
it's a right rigmarole to get everything back OK.
