Apologies in advance if I have found the wrong group to ask this question.
Having trouble with my monitor. Monitor is 3 years old but is quite dark.
Want to brighten up the screen as pictures are a bit dull. Just installed
XP. With 98 I had the same problem but always found a way to adjust it
somewhere in Control panel, with a slider. Cant find it now. I cant find any
drivers or anything like that for the monitor, and it says it is working
properly. Do monitors generally need a driver? It works fine but is just a
bit dark.
Any ideas or advice appreciated, thank you.

A monitor 'driver' is a file that tells the system what refresh rates the
monitor can handle. (Often, the system "default" or any reasonable rate
will suffice.)

The monitor itself is where brightness, contrast, centering, image size,
etc. are normally adjusted set - usually with on-screen controls. Review
the documentation.

Some video cards provide similar functionality, under Control
Panel|SETTINGS|ADVANCED. Look under all the tabs.
I leave most of those settings as is.

Here are two URLs that, in simple terms, instruct how to correctly set up
a monitor...
